We’ve all heard about the freelance nightmare where a project gets out of hand with a ton of changes and ends up reducing the revenue for a freelancer…maybe even costing money because it eats up potential to do other work. 

Well, project controls are a way to reduce that risk. 

This month, we’re going to be covering four questions you can ask yourself about your business to implement better controls and build a little more safety into your work. 

# 1 Is my contract supporting me? 

One of the most important tools you should be using to reduce risk is your contract. 

I have language in mine that says if a project gets cut short, a client has to pay for the work that’s already been done. It also specifies that orders can only come from one person. 

Consider those kinds of guardrails, but also wording that can protect you against risks that are common in your skillset and field.
