Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life. You can view a condensed version of this month’s coaching prompts here.
Hey!
If there’s one thing that every freelancer needs to commit to, it’s the ongoing growth of your marketing skills. So this CMO month, we’re covering a few questions to make sure you’re on the path to freelance stability and sustainability.
- Am I doing one professional development exercise a year?
- Am I constantly refining my benefits conversation?
- Am I working to become an
expert?
- Do I have standard processes and am I refining it?
- Do I have a way to learn about my potential customers?
Am I doing one professional development exercise a year?
When we’re employed, professional development is generally pretty clear, if not automatic. Smart, invested employers invest in the growth of their employees…for the health of their business and a better future.
You should be doing the same for yourself as a freelancer.
I generally commit to one professional development exercise a year—sometimes that’s through coaching, sometimes courses, but there are tons of options…books, classes, even degrees and certifications.
Whatever it is, set aside a few dollars now (I’ve done anywhere from $200 to $10K a year) so the decision is easier when you run across something that looks helpful.
Remember, don’t just guess at the quality of a professional development resource—make sure to run it past other freelancers. So if you want to check up on something before you make an investment, drop by the Facebook Mastermind!
