Every month we run through a series of
questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey!
It’s COO month, and in the BF Mastermind, that means we’re covering operations.
This month we’re digging into something that
used to absolutely plague me…which is just basically keeping clients organized.
I used to stress and worry that I was missing something, neglecting somebody, or just overlooking opportunities that could help strengthen my business. So this month we’re going to cover five tactics I use for staying on top of my clients and giving myself some peace of mind.
- Categorize your
relationships
- Profile your clients
- Review regularly
- Have a check-up sequence
- Consider a newsletter
Keep in mind this isn’t anything you have to do…it’s just a starting point for creating your own system. So let’s get into it!
#1 Am I categorizing my relationships?
As freelancers, our relationships with businesses can vary…a
lot.
Some of our clients are active today, some are sporadic, and some only pop up every few years. This month, I’m covering clients who you’re actively working with and how to keep them straight.
If you haven’t taken the time to sort these out, now is a great time to start. Personally, I keep an online folder of all my clients who represent
potential business, and keep a separate folder with the ones with active projects in the lists we’re going to be addressing.
Side note: sorting these out now not only helps keep your life in better working order, it also clarifies the kind of customer marketing you should be doing as a
freelancer.
If you need some help figuring out the best way to categorize your client list, drop by the Facebook Mastermind and we’ll see what we can help you with.
