Every month we run through a series of
questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey!
It’s COO month, and in the BF Mastermind, that means we’re covering operations.
This month we’re digging into something that
used to absolutely plague me…which is just basically keeping clients organized.
I used to stress and worry that I was missing something, neglecting somebody, or just overlooking opportunities that could help strengthen my business. So this month we’re going to cover five tactics I use for staying on top of my clients and giving myself some peace of mind.
- Categorize your
relationships
- Profile your clients
- Review regularly
- Have a check-up sequence
- Consider a newsletter
Keep in mind this isn’t anything you have to do…it’s just a starting point for creating your own system. So let’s get into it!
#2 Have I profiled my clients?
This is my favorite tactic. It’s really helped me stay objective
about my clients.
I keep a document with a profile of every client I work with. Right now, it includes the following categories.
- What’s Pressing Now: What I need to keep top of mind to do the best work possible
- Status: What’s going on internally and in our relationship
- Client Aspirations: What they expect my
work to help them achieve
- Client Opportunities: Upselling, learning, networking, connecting them with partners
- Next Steps: What will move the relationship forward right now
- Average Monthly Income: What they’re generating for my business
Keeping these updated has gone a long way in shifting my thought process and freeing my mind up from feeling like I need
to be on top of everything at all times. Try it out, and let me know what you think or if you have any ideas of what might work better.
