Hey!
If there’s anything to learn from Elon Musk’s failures, it’s just how badly a CEO can tank a company.
A CEO is the face of the company—they’re the main point of contact for a business’ network…this is true for a massive corporation and it’s even truer for you as a freelancer.
So this month, we’re going to cover network management.
(I’m really looking forward to feedback from you guys this month, since this is something which, as an introvert, I’ve had to put a lot of deliberate effort into.)
#1 Do I understand the value of my network?
Lots of intermediate self-employed people hit a specific wall. They’ve gotten all their business from referrals, realize that’s stunting their growth…and then they decide they have to figure out how to market themselves.
But look at the first part of that problem…networks can be so powerful that people build whole businesses off them. (This is
one reason I always encourage people to start with employment. If you’ve worked in a field, you already have some kind of connections to work with.)
Networks are how you stay on top of deep industry news, in front of prospects, and replicate the dynamics of being employed as a solo freelancer. Keep nurturing your network through proper business development, and you’ll expand into partnerships that can completely transform your life as a freelancer.
