Hey!
If there’s anything to learn from Elon Musk’s failures, it’s just how badly a CEO can tank a company.
A CEO is the face of the company—they’re the main point of contact for a business’ network…this is true for a massive corporation and it’s even truer for you as a freelancer.
So this month, we’re going to cover network management.
(I’m really looking forward to feedback from you guys this month, since this is something which, as an introvert, I’ve had to put a lot of deliberate effort into.)
#4 Have I made network nurturing a habit?
So I admittedly failed at this for a LONG time.
I was determined to grit my way to new business…on one level it worked. On another, now that I’ve moved more into consulting, I can see where I shorted myself on some opportunity.
One of the
reasons I shied away from it (besides being an introvert) was that it seemed like a TON of work. If you’ve ever worked with biz dev people, it can seem like they’re constantly scrambling to set up calls and meetings. And, well, they kinda are.
BUT…
You don’t have to. As a freelancer, even just a
few check-in emails or comments on social media a month can go a long way in staying top of mind and building out your network. I’ve made it part of my weekly marketing tasks and it’s actually very easy.
So just stay genuine and be willing to introduce others and you’ll likely see results you didn’t expect.
