Every month we run through
a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey!
You might be thinking “it’s October…why are you even talking about 2026”?
Well, now is the best time to take action on planning and developing longer-term relationships to set yourself up for a strong year. As the CEO of your business, one of the most effective initiatives you can start is business development.
That’s why this month, we’re going to check in on four actions you should be taking to
get your face out there and connect to the people and networks that are the heart of your freelance business.
#1 Do I have a go-to group?
Industry-aligned groups can be ridiculously helpful in growing and supporting your freelance business.
They help you stay on top of industry trends you can’t see on your own and connect you with professionals that you probably never considered.
The great thing about today’s world is that you have a ton of options.
I’m more of a digital
person, so my main group is a Slack in my industry for professionals ranging from programming to marketing. But I’m also in a group that hosts primarily in-person meetings.
If you don’t have one or two (and a habit of engaging and contributing), now’s the time to start looking. Check out local orgs, LinkedIn groups, and even Discords…just make sure they’re targeted and that you share clear
goals with the people involved.
