Every month we run through
a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey!
You might be thinking “it’s October…why are you even talking about 2026”?
Well, now is the best time to take action on planning and developing longer-term relationships to set yourself up for a strong year. As the CEO of your business, one of the most effective initiatives you can start is business development.
That’s why this month, we’re going to check in on four actions you should be taking to
get your face out there and connect to the people and networks that are the heart of your freelance business.
#2 Am I thinking about speaking?
Speaking is an excellent way to get your face in front of clients, partners, and other people in your business development circle.
Of course, conferences are the gold standard, but you’ve also got podcasts, webinars, and live events on platforms like LinkedIn. Keep an eye out for calls for speakers and apply when you see an opportunity (even if it seems like a long shot).
But also consider just introducing yourself to show runners and event staff. You never know where an
opportunity will pop up.
