Every month we run through a series of
questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey!
Partnerships are immensely valuable in times of uncertainty and chaos…and that’s what we’re living in now.
I’ve been having
regular talks with partners and potential partners, and it’s helped clarify so much in my freelance business. That’s why, this CMO month, we’re going to cover how to make sure you’re putting your best face forward as a partner and how to keep that momentum going for the indefinite future.
#3 Are you listening to their needs?
I’ve shared before that
I keep a list of partners to pass on work and useful info to…but I also ask what they want and what they’ve found disappointing in past partnerships.
The most common answers I get? Not understanding their business and not returning effort.
It really doesn’t take much to listen, make notes (CRMs like HubSpot are great for this) or to share a post or two
on social media. (I’m not good at remembering to do this spontaneously, so I have a weekly task set up to check in on and like or comment on a partner’s post.)
It’s a small thing, but it’s extremely helpful in staying in front of people and helping them with a little engagement.
