Hey!
A couple weeks ago I saw a conversation on Twitter where marketers were complaining about those subscription pop ups that make you click on something like “I guess you don’t like free money and fun things and puppies” just to close a box.
And you know what? They’re not wrong.
Even if it’s cute, popular or funny, content can backfire if you don’t respect your readers.
So, what does respect look like? It’s talking to them as if they’re competent, looking for topics they’ll find interesting, and yes, even just allowing them to say “No” without a guilt trip.
The great thing about respecting your audience is that the more you do it, the better you get at it.
