Hey!
Welcome to week 3 of CEO Month: SWOT analysis!
This week we’re talking opportunities, and…normally? This is an important topic any day, but considering how things are changing in the world right now, you can make huge changes in your business by learning to keep an eye out for new opportunities.
Let’s be real. While some freelancers are doing just fine or even better during a pandemic, some of us are really struggling. But it doesn’t have to be like that.
Those freelancers who are unaffected aren’t superhuman. It’s just that through luck, strategy (or a little bit of both) they happened to end up in a space that’s benefitting from the pandemic.
I’m in one (healthcare) but there are tons of others…and that’s where the key to your opportunity most likely lives.
Your Freelance Business Opportunities
With all the opportunities out there, you might be wondering where to start. Thing is, you’ve probably already got some clues based on what’s going on in your world.
For example, if all of your NYC clients have scaled back, you might want to look for opportunities in regions that will likely be less affected by the pandemic.
If you work with local restaurants and have seen issues, maybe it’s time to see how your skills can align with larger chains or meal delivery services.
But that’s just the start.
You probably have untapped opportunities in things like…
- Marketing to old customers
- Working your network (looking for strategic partners)
- Looking at niches that support work- and school-from-home
- Offering a new service that might be more viable in a more remote world
The thing about finding opportunities as freelancers though, is that you shouldn’t do it alone. If you want to bounce some ideas of other Black freelancers, let’s talk them out on the boards.
