Hey!
So let’s talk setting sales goals.
I’m getting at something deeper than covering a bill or replacing a salary. I’m talking about how you raise your expectations each month, quarter, or year.
This is SUCH a delicate and personal topic…we absolutely should be pushing to earn what we can. But how do we find balance between not shorting ourselves and aiming for more?
Personally, for me it’s come down to getting around other freelancers and seeing what they did. (So make sure to spend time asking questions.) But overall, setting incremental goals and working with ranges has gotten me the best and most sustainable results.
I think that’s because it gives me space to not get disappointed when months are low, but also keeps me moving forward.
What’s that look like in terms of numbers? Past the initial phases where you can expect huge jumps (e.g. if your previous goal was $500 per month, $1K is very reasonable) I’ve always liked 20% increases. Last time I set a new goal I moved from around $8-$12K to $10-$15K.
But again, it’s personal and can take time to figure out. If you’re unsure how to push your own goals, come by the boards and talk it out!
