Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey!
Last week we talked about having a marketing plan, this week, we’re talking content and whether that content aligns with what you’re trying to accomplish.
Here’s what I mean.
About two years ago I added the word “enterprise” to my website. It was the most recent in a series of changes. Over time, I’ve changed the wording of my site text to be increasingly specific—from “healthcare” to “healthcare tech” to “HIT” to “B2B HIT” to “enterprise HIT”.
Why?
Because my marketing plans became increasingly specific. After seeing that I could get the best results and make the best income by being more selective, I stopped working with just anybody in healthcare tech. I honed things down to just enterprise HIT…and I’m considering going even deeper with just “hospitals”.
Now, my about page, services page, and ads make sure to specify who I want to work with—my content directly reflects my marketing plan.
That’s where a lot of us fall short…not asking if we’re stepping out confidently to own our marketing plans and broadcast them to the world…even just as a test.
If that’s something you’ve been struggling with, come by the Academy boards and let’s talk it out!
