Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a business — “self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey! Happy CEO month!
So this month (on top of doing Income and Assessment), we’re going to be covering a few reasons this might be the season to refresh your freelance
strategy.
Don’t skip this one, because your strategy is everything.
Your freelance “why” might be what’s driving you, but the “how/what” is going to be answered with your strategy.
So let’s start with the first sign it’s time for something new…
You’re not happy.
So I’m not going to pretend that everything chips and roses when you start freelancing (or ever really), but this is your business. You get to build it the way you want.
Hate something? Don’t do it.
Sick of your schedule? Change it.
Don’t like someone? Don’t work with them.
Freelancers regularly outsource work, set strict boundaries on their calendars, and cut off clients…just to build a more comfortable, happier life. Personally, I’ve limited my schedule to 20 hours, 4 days a week for this exact reason. Why? Because I want to.
Thing is, pulling that off meant focusing on making more money for less work, which is exactly why I stopped trying to get paid in my “passion” niche (martial arts) and went for something I found interesting and where I felt I was making a difference (healthcare tech).
So what’s going on with you? Are you happy? Is there anything making your life less pleasant that needs to go?
If you want some support with solutions, come by the Academy boards and let’s talk it out!
