Hi
I love to cook and especially with my own base ingredients. (Making soup from an animal carcass and potatoes I grew will be the highlight of my week.) I have a line though, and that line is cheese.
Cheese-making is an art that requires specific materials, equipment, and
years of knowledge and understanding if you want to make anything but the simplest of cheese products...I don’t make my own cheese.
I also don’t code.
I know that coding is all the rage right now and that’s wonderful. More people need to be encouraged to get into that aspect of technology and I might even try it myself one day, but if you’re trying to run or grow a freelance business, you simply have more important things to do…not to
mention there are people who can do that kind of work better.
Basically...Don’t waste your valuable time trying to do everything.
I know that can be hard for some of us, but remember, your time is finite and every hour you spend on activities that don’t connect directly to your primary freelance work is an hour lost. Don’t dismiss the idea of using pre-built solutions, hiring an online assistant, or even
a friend or family member for smaller tasks.

Scared to sell your work?
I know you shouldn’t be, but it can take a while to really internalize that. If you want to get started on some activities to get past that fear, check out our newest post “
Why Aren’t You Selling Your Work?”
Kicking Off October Goals!
Get ready to work on your website!
We’re closing out our September goals (
come post your updates here), and are kicking off our first Monthly Meetup
with a website theme, so start thinking of one goal you’d like to accomplish for your website…it might be blogging consistently for a month, fixing your About page, or even just buying your first domain...whatever it is, we’re all going to work through it beginning on the 1
st (you’ll get an email for the official kickoff), so start thinking of what you’d like to be proud of at the end of October.
Listen To This
It has a streamlined format and great interviews with other freelancers who’ve transitioned from their day jobs to working independently (the ones on multiplying the rate you charge have gotten most of my attention lately). Definitely worth checking out
a few episodes, especially if you’re moving from doing your work for a company to selling your services yourself.
I hope everything’s going great in your freelance world and if it’s not, remember I’m always open to talk it out. Have a great week!
Megan.
