Ask any high-earning freelancer out there how they increased their income, and they’ll almost certainly mention specializing.
What they might not be able to tell you is how they execute on that specialization, and that’s what I want to talk to you about today…specifically in terms of your website (it is website month after all.)
Keywords might make you think of Google searches or the newest
marketing segment, but they’re so much more than that…keywords are not-so-subtle hints to businesses and people that you understand their problems. If you pay attention to the products and services you already use, you’ll see how heavily effective companies use them…Think of the way car companies talk about “safety”, “adrenaline”, price ranges, life stages and banks constantly mention things like “flexibility” and “service”. Those are all queues to let you know that they’re here to solve your
problems.
You want to do the same thing in all aspects of your freelance work so
I’ve put together this post on reflecting your keywords on your site. Take a few minutes to review it, and then use the final section as a guide to go through your website and turn it into a space that appeals to
both clients and search engines.
New On BlackFreelance
First off, congrats to member Tai Gooden on getting a piece placed in one of her goal publications! You can check out Tai’s info (and congratulate her) on our
list of freelancers
available for hire. Tai’s plan of having goal publications is a great way to stay motivated and focused in your freelance work. (If you’re not a writer, you can have a goal client or customer, even payment rate…anything you can celebrate!)
Second, I ran across a product that’s making my computer time a lot easier and I wanted to let you know about it. I hadn’t heard about computer glasses until a couple of weeks ago, but I found a pair that was under $20 and I’m
LOVING them so far. I don’t have that exhausted-eye feeling at the end of the day anymore. If you’ve had any screen-related eye issues,
this post will be a good read.
Goals
It’s the last week of website month!
It won’t be
back around in the topic rotation for a while, so if haven’t set a goal, it’s still not too late! You can make simple, but impactful changes to your site in just one afternoon (think
colors or
fonts), so if you’re looking for some ideas or want to jump in at the last minute,
come on by the goal forums and join in. Also, don’t forget that your membership gives you access to
the Website Essentials course which will get you going on the most important elements of your freelance website (and you can finish it in less than a day.)
I hope everything’s going great in your freelance world and I’ll talk to you
soon:)
