An Indispensable Freelance Exercise (Let’s do it together)

Published: Sun, 11/08/15

Hi

Successful freelancing is about finding your lane.

That lane can merge, widen, and narrow, but knowing where you’re supposed to be on the freelance road at any given time is incredibly liberating...it cuts through all the noise of bad client fits, new productivity tools, and negative thoughts, and focuses you on finding that spot where you’re establishing yourself as a solver of your client problems.

That’s why this week I want to invite you to do one, simple exercise.

It’s an exercise that will serve as the foundation of your freelance career, your branding, marketing, client acquisition, customer service, professional education…basically this exercise is everything.

I’m asking everyone here at BlackFreelance to come by the forums and give it a shot.  I’m going to be posting my answers as well as how they’ve evolved over time. I also want to invite anyone who’s having trouble filling out their own to ask questions about the process.

It won’t take more than a few minutes, but it can completely change your freelance career.

New On BlackFreelance
We’ve got a few new posts up this week, all about Getting Clients…

Part 2 of How To Get Your First (or better) Freelance Clients: You’ll especially want to read this if you’re having trouble getting started.

A question for Black digital marketers: I’ve got social media marketers and digital marketers jumping all over my tweets and inboxes, but I swear not one is Black, and I know there area lot out there. If you’ve got any idea why, let me know (it could even be something I’m doing)…I’m genuinely curious because I know we could do some amazing work in this area given our strength in cultural innovation and communication.

Inspiration for fashion writers and media folk: So H&M spewed some ridiculousness on Twitter this week…not surprising, but if you look deep enough, you’ll get some ideas of how you can turn their mistake into ideas to get new clients yourself.

Meeting Your Freelance
Don’t miss out on the benefits of accountability with your Monthly Meetups…Come make your goals real in the forums today (we’re still in the first half of November, so you’ve got room to achieve great things this month.)

See you around the site!
