You don’t get good clients without good habits,

Hi

If I asked you how you market yourself, what would you say?

Would you be able to tell me the activities you do and how often? Would you be able to tell me when and why you do them?

If you’re like me when I started, you’ll have a hard time getting past the first question…and that’s perfectly ok. What’s not ok is letting yourself stay where you are.

If you’re sitting around waiting for occasional marketing to bring you clients, you’re almost guaranteeing yourself a needlessly frustrating freelance experience. The great thing about marketing though, is that simple, regular activities add up in the long-run and help put your mind at ease as well as free up your time to do your actual freelance work.

I use activities just like these to keep myself in a position where I can turn down work, and I’ve put together my basic weekly calendar here. It’s a simple mix of cold-contacting, follow-up, quick checks on the Internet for job openings/business activity, and content creation that keeps my marketing under control and my mind at peace.

Side note: If you need any help with the emails, don’t forget that you have access to email templates and subject lines here.

If you haven’t incorporated regular marketing into your freelance schedule, come by this month’s Meetup forum and pledge to start as we move into 2016…you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.

Speaking of the forums, some of us are working through the last half of our November goals and talking planning, tracking our marketing, and using scarcity to manage client expectations, so schedule some time this week to visit and see what everybody’s up to.

See you around the site!
