So there’s this burger place near me that’s pretty decent. It’s the standard place that pops up in gentrified neighborhoods…they’ve got 6 kinds of meat, and I swear, a good 30 kinds of relish that you choose to put on your beef/shrimp/lobster/kangaroo burger if you want.

When I first heard about it, it sounded interesting. I could build any combination I wanted…but then I actually went and tried to do that. Let’s just say I’ve come up with some straight up nasty combinations trying to play menu designer…every time I go I wish they’d have just a couple of suggestions to keep me from making a bleu cheese, scotch bonnet, whiskey garlic burger.

One place that gets this right is Coldstone Creamery…if you’ve never been, it works on a similar concept…a million different possible combinations BUT Coldstone gives you suggestions — pictures on the walls and a menu that has suggested combinations already put together for you. You can walk in and build whatever you want, or you can take advantage of their ice cream-expertise and try a suggested “packaging” of everything they have to offer.
