When was the last time you looked at your web presence…I mean REALLY looked it. I’m talking visiting and looking at it…not from your perspective, but from a client’s perspective.
I did that last Website Month with mine and I found a site that hurt my feelings…it was difficult to read and on top of that, it didn’t really tell the story I wanted my clients to hear.
I won’t lie…it was hard to
admit that to myself then, and that’s mostly because it can be so hard to know what to do when you’re faced with a site that isn’t appealing and that isn’t bringing you in cold leads.
There is hope though (there’s always freelance hope...)
Making small changes along the way can transform your website from just another spot on the Internet into a place where your potential clients get to know you and exactly how you solve their
problems.
One of the best places to do this is in your portfolio.
Since we’re focused on messaging this month at BlackFreelance Academy, I wanted to talk a little bit about incorporating your messaging into your portfolio in effective ways — that means dropping the idea of putting out your “best” work, and putting together pieces that answer 4 essential questions for your clients. You can
check that post out here. I want to encourage you to check out your portfolio (that’s on your site, LinkedIn, Upwork, wherever…).
Also, don’t forget that if this is something you want to see working for you by the end of this month, take advantage of some accountability and
make a goal for small changes to your web presence real
here in the forums.
Resource Reminder
It’s designed to help you put together the basics of your freelance site, clean up your current site, kick off your most important site areas, and even repurpose materials you already have.
It’s very informative and if you’re looking for a solid overview of how to create an effective freelance site, I think you’ll enjoy
it.
Community Chat
I just passed my old (employed) monthly income! It’s a weird feeling (both good and bad) but I think it’s important to talk about these kind of things openly as freelancers, so
I talked a little bit about it here….would
love to hear your thoughts.
Hope you’re having a great April, and talk to you soon!
Megan.
