How’s your health, ?

Hey ,

We’re going to move into Reflection & Assessment month, but first off, we gotta up Social Media month (you can review all our social posts here). Last month was all about Twitter, so how’s your presence looking now? Have you learned anything from it yet? Set up new habits to better use it? Keep up the habits that you set up in August and I promise, you’ll learn how to use Twitter in a way that builds your business.

OK, so this September, we’re going to be focusing on your health. You can make all the plans you like, but if you aren’t healthy it can easily all come crashing down around you. If you work through the challenge this month, you can expect to have a better handle on your overall health as well as have developed a few habits that will help you be the best freelancer possible.

Here’s a breakdown of all four weeks in this month’s challenge…

  • Week 1: Observing Your Emotional Health
  • Week 2: Assessing Your Financial Health
  • Week 3: Being Real About Your Physical Health
  • Week 4: Understanding Your Professional Health

Challenge Week 1: Observing Your Emotional Health

One of the biggest clues I had that employment wasn’t for me was my desks.

I never really wanted to bring much from home because in the back of my mind, I always wanted to be able to move quickly—I needed to be able to quit on the spot. I thought this was protecting myself, but now, I’m not sure whether it helped me maintain distance or made my work environments feel even more uncomfortable. I can’t say that there was a period of more than a year in my decade+ of employment where I was emotionally healthy.

I am and was honest about that though, because I believe more than anything, that a healthy, productive career starts with honesty. I learned the importance of paying attention to my emotional health and I brought that habit into my freelance life.

Even now, I’ll check in with myself to see how my work makes me feel — too many calls and I might feel stressed, the wrong type of client might leave me feeling trapped, setting earning targets tends to make me feel accomplished.

This week, I want you to try to do the same thing…whether you blog about your freelance life, keep a private journal, or just make quick notes on your phone, take some time this week to record your emotional states at work, with different clients, even when you’re taking some off time. If you notice anything particularly interesting that you’d like to share, just let me know, I’m always curious how things are going for you.

Have a great week!

Megan.
