A simple plan to make $70K+ Per Year...

Published: Fri, 09/09/16

Hi

Does $72K sound like a lot of money to make working only half days freelancing? I don’t and I’m testing an idea I want to share with you. Each Friday this month, I’m going to tell you a little bit more about what I’m doing and how you can think about and try something similar yourself.

So I’ve been working on a behind-the-scenes project, and the results have been really promising so far —  I couldn’t wait until Getting Clients month to share, so we’re gonna talk about how a simple freelance service can change the way you earn.

The whole idea behind this is that simple services…ones that require little effort on your part…can serve as the basis of your earning and client pipeline. The key is paying attention and finding a straightforward problem that impacts a lot of your niche. For me, that’s turned out to be dead blogs.

Tons of company in my little B2B healthcare niche have blogs that people have started but haven’t kept up. (This example is for writing, but the concept can apply to any freelance skillset.) They’re generally really embarrassed about that too.
As a writer, one of my first gigs was keeping up with news on a few topics that my editors cared about and rewriting them in a way that cited the source, wasn’t plagiarized, but presented news under the publication brand. I did this for only $25 an article, but realized that I could do the same for individual companies at a higher rate ($100 per weekly article).

This would guarantee me $400/month per client. At that rate, I figured if I could sign 15 clients to the service, I’d hit my goal. Mind you, that means I’m only writing 15 hours a week to make over $70K a year.

That might sound like a lot of clients, but in just 2 half days (once per week) of shooting out some (very straightforward, well-written) emails, I’ve gotten 3 leads interested in the service. Think about that. Once someone is talking to you, it means you’re already over the biggest barriers to selling and there’s a good chance they’ll want to sign up with you…which means that a year from now, it’s completely reasonable that I hit that income goal.

I’m going to tell you more as we move through the month, but I want you to tell me…do you think this is something you could do? If you’re not a writer, can you think of any other simple problems your clients have that you could solve with a simple, easily replicated service?
