My layoff worked well for me, and I don’t just mean getting that push to finally start freelancing.
I mean I was in a situation where I still had insurance for a few months, so I used that time to undo the damage years in an awful work environment had done. My job had left me overweight, my reproductive system off kilter, and with poor eating habits.
I didn’t realize how bad things
were until I was out. When I look back, I realize I was ignoring my physical health in my job mostly because I just didn’t have the energy to pay full attention. As a freelancer though, things are different.
Challenge Week 3: Being Real About Your Physical Health
So how’s your physical health doing? I’m not talking taking a trip to the doctor. I want to know how you think you’re doing in
paying attention to your physical well-being. To get started, try asking yourself some of these questions…
- Am I getting enough sleep?
- Am I moving? Do I get regular exercise?
- Do I eat more as fuel than I do as entertainment or stress relief?
- Is my environment contributing to my well-being? (A good mattress/office chair, plants in work spaces, good
ventilation, pictures of friends/family etc.)
- Do I have good self-care habits? (flossing, skincare, resting, stretching)
So how do you think you’re doing? Remember, keeping yourself physically healthy doesn’t have to happen all at one time. Even small changes in each of those areas can add up quickly and help keep you functioning at your best to build your freelance career.
Have a
great Sunday!
Megan.
