Challenge Week 2: Open Your Lines of Communication

Published: Sun, 10/16/16

Hi

This is one of those elements of your web presence that’s so simple, a lot of freelancers look right past it.

You can lose freelance business just because someone had to hunt to find your email address or phone number and that’s a mistake you don’t want to make.

Week 2: Open Your Lines of Communication

Whether you’ve got a website, blog, LinkedIn page, or bidding site profile, people have to be able to get in contact with you. They also shouldn’t have to work to do it. That’s why this week I want you go to all your online presences (yes, all of them) and count how many clicks it takes someone to get to your contact information.

Ideal is zero (that’s right…your info should be on every page), one is ok. Once you start getting to two, you’re sabotaging yourself. Remember that you’ve got a lot of options here including…

  • Phone (Include the option to text and use a Google Voice number if privacy is a concern.)
  • Email (always best if it’s at a domain you own)
  • Skype (Not sure why, but some folks really love making contact on Skype.)
  • LinkedIn (Some people like doing business here.)

Keep in mind that your contact info should be all about making things simple for your clients. Keep them at the center of everything you do and you won’t have to worry about losing freelance business unnecessarily.
