Think of the last three things you bought. I bet you know exactly why you did.
Ultimately, you want your freelance clients to be able to do the same. You also want to advertise those reasons on your web presence.
You might
feel like you can’t come up with great (or even good) reasons that clients should give you their money right now, but trust, with some trial and error, you can.
Week 3: Convince Them “Why”
Convincing someone why they should buy from you is a process, and
your web presence is a crucial part in that process. That’s why this week, I’m going to ask you to put at least 2 of the following Whys on your profile, site, or blog. You’re going to do this so that your visiting, potential customers know that you genuinely want to do business with them and are making the effort to communicate why.
You’ve got multiple options, so go through these, see what works
for you, and get them up on your profiles and sites.
- Expertise/Insider Status: Maybe you have a degree in a certain field, years of experience, or are a member of a specific demographic or community. Maybe you just know your city really well. If you do, and it relates to your freelance work, state that outright — it can go a long way in making you
stand out from your competition.
- Speed: My clients love that I get stuff done on time. Lots of freelancers don’t and sometimes the people who hire you put a LOT of weight on you not interrupting their work flow. During interviews, I let them know that I keep a limited number of clients so they’ll always be a
priority, but I also make a mention of it on my site.
- Specialization: Expertise can contribute here, but there’s more than one way to specialize. Sometimes I get jobs just because people know I’m always reading the news in my niche (healthcare tech) or because I only work with B2B companies. I’m arguably not a
definite “expert” in either of those areas, but I’m always connected, and that matters.
-
- Communication: Clients like freelancers who are easy to communicate with…people who ask questions, get clarification, and keep them informed. Good communication is the foundation of professionalism, something that’s in
short supply in the world of freelancers.
Remember to keep these Whys front and center…that’s in the first 2 sentences of your profile, or the homepage of your blog or site.
As always, if you have any questions, just shoot me a message. Have a great week!
Megan.
