How a simple, daily habit changed my freelance income…

Hi

My monthly freelance income just solidly lapped my highest employed income, and it’s all because of a really easy habit I started.

A few months ago, I decided that every day, I would take just one action that, if it worked out, would directly mean a boost to the money I made freelancing. I ended up alternating between cold contacting companies (from lists of top companies in my healthcare technology niche…thanks Google) and pitching to one of my recurring clients (which I knew, if accepted, meant an easy, $250 article assignment.)

A few weeks in, I ended up getting a response from a marketing director who just happened to need a freelance writer to help build out their company web presence. She was elated to find me because she’d been having a really hard time getting blogs written by her internal team.

The project means another $3K/month for me over the next 1-2 years, as well as potential referral income (they also needed help with market research…something one of my other clients does…we have a contract that says I get 10% of any business I send their way).

Never underestimate the power of a consistent habit. You never know where it can take you as a freelancer.

P.S. How’s your daily contact challenge going? If you’re looking for a way to organize your prospects, Insightly is where you need to be. Even their free version can completely shift the way you look at prospects, not to mention follow-up and figuring out where you get the best results in your work.
