I’m a writer, so at first glance, skill development means reading good writers (I’ve been reading James
Baldwin to help me writer clearer sentences) or maybe studying up on grammar. When I think about it though, those definitely aren’t the only skills I use.
The number one most profitable service I offer is case study creation. It can make me upwards of $750 for a day’s work, and I really like doing it (it’s like telling stories, just for businesses.) To learn how to shape my writing skills to that service though, I took
a case study boot camp course. That course taught me how to take my skill as a writer, ask a few good questions, improve my storytelling, and shape my existing abilities into a much more profitable service.
No matter what your freelance skill is, you likely have similar options. As a graphic designer,
you could learn how to create (in demand) infographics. As a virtual assistant, you could learn how to meet the needs of executives looking to transition careers (higher pay).
The big question is, how to shape your skill to make you more money?
The best way I’ve found to start, is to search for more established freelancers (on Google) and see the services they offer and make a list of anything interesting. Try that out this week and see what you
find.
