You probably know that overt goals aren’t a big deal to
me.
They can be useful, and in some cases, essential. But in something like freelancing, where you have
so many factors outside your control (fluctuating demand, a changing economy, shifting laws…)
keeping strong habits will get you through more storms than goals.
But.
Goals
can serve a purpose. I believe that it’s incredibly important, especially if you’re habit oriented, to give yourself a pat on the back sometimes, and recognize that all your work has worked out. That’s why this week I want you to ask yourself…
How will I know when I’ve reached my goals?
I believe that you should have at least loose goals around a couple of areas like these…
- Income
- Emotional health
- Business health
- Overall life satisfaction
After all, habits should be pointing somewhere. These goals don’t have to be hard numbers, but if you want to be in a place where, for instance, you’re not worrying
about your bills, set at least an income range you’re looking to hit…Know what kind of general
emotional state you’d like to live in. Have a picture of what you’d like your freelance business to look like. Establish what kind of life you want to lead.
Keep those in mind, even write them down, and you can move confidently into the next six months of your freelance growth. Have a great week!
Megan
P.S.
Don’t forget to
update your self-assessment before this month runs out. It doesn’t take long, and every time I do mine, I’m surprised at how much I’ve progressed without realizing.
