BlackFreelancer Website Tour! (Week 2…My Site!)

Published: Sun, 04/09/17

Hi

I hope you’re enjoying the tour so far, because this week, we’re taking a trip to my site!

I’m going to be up front with you…I’m tired of it. It’s the second site I’ve built since I started freelancing and I’ve had it for a while now, so it’s due for an upgrade. (But, it’s worked for me, so I can’t be too hard on it.)

Still, I’m ready to change, so I’m going to send you over and tell you exactly why I’m looking to make some big changes.

Megan’s Site

What’s I want to change about my site…
Take a look around. You’ll see it’s got the basics of easy contact, and easy-to-find portfolio, and a (general) explanation of the value I provide right on the first page. There are a few reasons I want to build a new site though…

  • I’ve got a better feel for the value I provide and to whom: Anytime you’re just stepping out into freelancing, you’re guessing. You really don’t know why people will want to work with you or who’s interested. I have a MUCH better understanding now and need to design my site more concretely around that.
  • I need a better way to feature my portfolio: I’ve got a couple of big names and frankly, the way this template lays things out are just not giving them enough attention.
  • The template is driving me up a wall: It’s got so many little, annoying issues (it does this weird thing with spacing between lines) that I don’t even like creating new posts.
  • It needs to center me more: I’ve been surprised to find out that, even in my B2B niche, people like working with me as an individual. Presenting myself as an agency…well…it’s caused some confusion.
  • I’m testing a new niche: You’ll see on the right homepage icon that it’s a little different than the other three. Over the next few months, I’m going to see if it can generate any interest (and maybe even spit it off into its own site.)

So that’s my site! Once I do get around to launching, I’ll let you know what it looks like. If you’ve got any questions about it, just let me know.

Next week, we’ll be taking a look at one of my favorite copywriting sites. Have a great week!

Megan.
