I’ve been thinking a lot about my expectations around income and lifestyle lately, and that’s mostly because of a coaching program I just signed up for.

You might have heard me mention it before, but seeing people treating $200K a year as normal income for a freelancer has really shaken me up…and you know what? It shouldn’t.

When I started, I was making $25 for an hours’ worth of work and now that’s jumped into the $100-$200 range in just a few years…I should know how this works. I know that earning more and improving your life (because I’m not trying to make a bunch of money only to have my business own me) as a freelancer is largely about expectations and making choices that will steer your business in the direction you want.

I know this, but I still look at a $200K income as only a slight possibility.

…So I just bought a quick, 30-min session with a coach (it actually came free with a course). We’ll see if it’s worth it…you never know with these things. But regardless, I’ve decided to put more emotional effort into letting go of the very linear thinking that employment has attached me to. I hope you will to.
