Monthly Challenge Change…August is All About Niches!

Published: Sun, 08/06/17

Hi

Happy August!

I hope the third quarter of your year is rounding out well.

If you keep up with the Academy Calendar, you know that August is supposed to be Social Media month. Well, I noticed that month and Getting Clients month tended to overlap quite a bit, so I’m switching this up. From now on, February and August will be dedicated to exploring and refining our niches!

You ready? Because this month, we’re going to start building niche profiles. If you haven’t chosen one yet? No worries…before you jump into this month, check out the How To Choose Your Best Niche guide here, and all of the Niche Resources here.

Understanding Opportunity

One of the most important tools you can wield in avoiding freelance burnout (and brokenness) is a habit of looking for opportunity.

That habit comes in a LOT of different varieties, but this month we’re going to look at straight money. For some of us, that’s easier than others.

Someone like me who works in a traditional market can Google what I do (healthcare IT) and find a market report that lets me know that it’s projected to be over $250 billion in a couple years. (I just looked up “healthcare IT market size.)

Someone who works in Black hair can do the same and find support that it’s a very large industry (I keep hearing $500 billion. That might not be exactly true, but even if it’s only a tenth of that size, it’s a large market.) Even people working in the not-for-profit world can do a little digging and find out their space floats around $2.1 trillion in revenues every year.)

All of those are very large niches.

This week, I want you to see what kind of information you can find about your industry by searching and poking around the Internet. We’re not going for anything super-specific…I just want you to spend some time out there and get a concept in your head—either small, medium, or large.

Next week, we’re going to be dividing that up, so don’t stress about being precise. The whole point is to just spend some time out there getting a feel for what you’re dealing with. As always, if you’ve got any questions, just let me know…talk to you soon!
