Quick…what’s your favorite
restaurant?
OK…what kind of food do they serve?
You can answer that last question easily, and precisely because as far as I know, no restaurant just serves “food”…and we all know why.
People have preferences, budgetary restrictions, and dietary goals that “food” just won’t meet. “Food” is a waste of time. “Food” doesn’t get you where you want to be, and unfortunately, “food” is exactly what a lot of freelancers are
selling.
The Curse of No Niche
Trust…as someone who started in combat sports writing, did a quick stint in real estate, moved on to startups, and finally landed on healthcare tech, I KNOW that choosing a niche isn’t easy. (
That’s why I outlined my journey for you
here.)
We all know how that goes though… “anything that’s easy isn’t worth doing, and anything that’s worth doing isn’t easy.”
I’m not going to say that’s always true, but when it comes to freelancing, choosing a niche, AND reflecting that on your website, it’s gonna be true today.
What To Do
If you’ve made it this far into the Academy, you probably have at least an idea of
what niche it is you’re exploring. That’s great! Because now it’s time to show it off.
I know you might be shy, but that little niche idea you have in your head is an important tool in your lead-generating process…
…It’s a keyword that helps people find your site.
…It’s a signal that wards off clients who aren’t the best fit for you.
…It’s a nudge to get interested prospects ready to sign…so get it out
there!
It doesn’t have to be anything life-changing. You just need to let people know who you are from the get go. On my website, that’s just a simple introduction…
I’m your first stop in building a productive content presence in B2B healthcare tech.
That’s big and bold on the front page of my site and all it took was three words.
Of course, I’ve got blog posts, an about page and a
portfolio that screams B2B healthcare tech too, but those are extra. What matters most is that my introduction is clear, confident and focused.
So what words can you add to your site to communicate your niche?
