Content Marketing Wednesday: When content doesn’t matter…

Published: Wed, 11/22/17

Hi

I had a really frank conversation with a client this week, and she told me something that broke the rules of content marketing…almost.

“Yeah…I don’t really care about your blog, just what you’ve done before for other clients.”

I could have taken that as reason to throw the whole blog away, but nope. It told me that people visiting my site (the ones who I haven’t had a lot of success from my blog with) might like blogs that center my work more.

So going forward, I’m going to focus my blog around topics like “My top 4 case studies”, “My most productive tech blogs”, and “White papers that got the job done”.

It’s something I haven’t tried before, but that’s what content marketing is all about, right? Listening to feedback from your customers, responding, and moving forward.

This will take some time to grow into if you don’t have a portfolio developed yet, but as soon as you get one sample you’re free to talk about, take the opportunity to share insight not only into your work, but your process and what it’s like to work with you.

Potential clients will appreciate it and you might even find it draws in some new business.
