All of these are super simple and you probably do a
couple without even thinking about it…but like a lot of what we do, it always helps to name it and really make sure it’s happening. Ready? Let’s do this.
The Power of Regular Communication
Communication is always 2-way and some clients are on top of it.
They’re ready to set up weekly meetings and check on you before you even start. That’s because they’re organized people or they work in organized organizations (or
both).
…but not everybody’s that lucky.
Some clients just aren’t naturally organized. Others work in chaotic organizations where they’ve learned to go with the flow to keep that check coming. Either way, adding some structure to your communication can be really powerful in helping them see you as a valuable resource they don’t want to let go.
I have a client like this who goes silent for months at a
time.
I have it on my calendar to check in, let them know I’m available and ready to help…I do that about once a month. About 6 weeks ago I shot over an email…and they tossed over $1200 worth of work that I really enjoy doing along with a big thanks for helping them stay on track.
If I’d sat back and not taken ownership of our relationship? They could’ve faded away, never building the content presence they needed and I would’ve been out
of work with a client who I enjoy.
So this month, put it on your calendar to follow up with those “quiet” clients. Remember that they’re working with you to improve their business…you never know where you can help them out.
