One of my skillset communities (you’re connected with one of
those and not just BlackFreelance right?) is ALWAYS talking about ways to make more money…to the point I get tired of hearing about it.
But honestly, they’re right…if you want freelancing to pay off for you in the long run, it’s critical that you focus on the best ways to earn more for your work.
The wild part though, is that most of the tips they send out are pretty simple.
It’s easy to think that making more for your
work as a freelancer is some ridiculously complex formula, but for the most part it’s not. It usually comes down to something straightforward…the kind of thing we’re going to focus on this week.
Where is Your Skillset “Behind”
Every niche ain’t created equal.
That doesn’t just mean potential. Some spaces are WAY ahead of others. For example…niches like skincare and entertainment are
lightyears ahead in terms of social media. If you look at, say, the dental niche, they’re big into blogging and just discovering podcasts.
Understanding that dynamic is a great way to find where your skill is the most needed, meaning where it’s easiest to find work AND charge more.
Where to Look
Figuring out what niche is lagging behind on is really about
observation and sticking your nose into places that might be a little new to you.
I learned how to blog in combat sports, but took a look over at my professional niche in healthcare and noticed they were way behind and bam…freelance career.
You’re going to want to do the same…look at your hobbies, education, work, even religious life to see where things are lagging behind and where you might be able to add some value (and don’t forget to look
across
multiple niche dimensions.)
