If you run in business or higher-paid writing circles, you’ve probably heard people talking about white papers, how important they are and how lucrative they can be.
I charge $500-$1000 per page for mine, and that’s a normal rate. That’s because white papers do a lot for businesses. They educate their market on a topic (usually one that they’re experts on and solve
problems around), and usually take a specific position.
Think of it as a combination of a report and an opinion essay.
They’re powerful, because they help align customer thinking with what a business is selling. Since they’re usually used by clients who sell very expensive products, they’re also
expensive to create.
I explain a little more about them in this post, but if you want to get into content marketing (or even creating them for your business) take some time to start reading them yourself. They’re a business classic and even a good test project for getting a relationship going with a new client.
