If you did last week’s exercise, you’ve got an idea of how much the real change you want to see in your life costs. This week, we’re going to cover how much space you’re willing to make to make sure that happens.
You know I’m all about maintaining peace around here, so I believe in starting with boundaries. One of the most important? Time.
There’s an ugly truth about freelancing, and that’s the fact that it can eat up your life worse than any job ever can. I saw it happen with a lot of freelancers around me and
vowed I didn’t want to end up there.
Still, I fight with this every now and then, because I’ve been conditioned to follow the same self-defeating formula so many of
us have — “If you want to make more, work more.”
That’s a lie though. Actually it’s worse than a lie. It’s a partial truth.
It’s partial, because there’s another way to make more, and that’s to simply charge more for the effort you already put out. That’s the way you go to maintain your mental
health. That’s the goal you set if you already feel over-worked. That’s what you aim for if you feel like you just don’t have anything else to give.
That’s why this
week we’re starting with boundaries around how many hours you want to put into your business. If you do it this way (vs. just working with a number), it forces you to focus on providing more value before you fall back
into compromising on time with your community, family, or taking care of yourself.
So how many hours can you comfortably work each month? Be honest.
What number of hours can you dedicate to your freelance business? What would your life be like? Is there anything in your life you’d be willing to cut back on if
absolutely necessary?
Play with that exercise until you get a number, because next week? We’re doin’ some math😊
