I have yet to meet a freelancer who wasn’t nervous about talking money. Even if they’re confident today, they probably weren’t before.
I think I got over it faster than most people, but it took some time.
If you’re still itchy about giving out direct info on how much it costs to work with you, I want you to take this week really seriously. That’s because whether you’re charging $5,000/hr or $75 (you shouldn’t be going any lower than that), not being confident in this conversation can kill your work before
it even gets started.
You’ve probably heard me talk about using ranges to ease the conversation, but there’s a step before that, and that’s where your website comes
in.
Let Your Site Set Expectations
Not everybody believes in putting prices on their site, but I do.
I do all my
marketing digitally, and having my prices right there on my services page means that nobody gets to be shocked when I tell them that case studies are $1,000 per page.
I don’t need it as much as I used to, but when I was a baby freelancer? It made me feel SO much better that a member of my “team” was out there playing defense and getting leads ready for what to expect.
So, if you’re itchy about talking dollars but don’t have a site, it might be time for you to make that leap.
