First off, if you celebrate Thanksgiving, belated happy Thanksgiving! I hope you got some good rest.
We’re closing out this months’ series on partnerships with a quick talk about agreements.
Partnerships come in a lot of different shapes and sizes, but you can normally toss them into one of two categories...
Informal partnerships are the freelancers you connect with occasionally to pass work back and forth. Nothing’s set in stone and after work gets passed on, everybody’s free to do their own thing.
As powerful as those informal partnerships are, formal relationships are on another level.
The Beauty of Referral Contracts
Referral contracts are pretty straightforward.
Usually they’re a deal between two businesses or freelancers that state that if a client is sent over, the person doing the referring gets a percentage of the second person’s income for a set period of time. (I’ve seen usually around the 10-20% range).
For me, that’s meant thousands of extra dollars each year in income, but they can go much higher with bigger deals.
Here’s an example of one (not an endorsement), but if you’re ever in a situation where you think you might want to consider a referral relationship, feel free to hit me up and I’ll help you find something specific.
And that’s it! Get ready, because next month we’re rolling into a whole month on how to keep clients happy. Talk to you then!
