Can we talk about the fact that sometimes niches just don’t work?
You pick a niche, give it a good 6 months or so of solid marketing and prospecting and…nothing.
…or the work sucks.
…or the pay is bad.
…or the people are terrible.
…or you just hate it.
It’s frustrating, but it happens. (It happened with me and startups.) That might make you want to completely dump your hard-earned niche, despite your love, professional experience or interest. But wait! Don’t ditch that niche just yet.
Sometimes, all it takes is a slight adjustment and adding a little twist. This month, we’re going to go through 4 niche frustrations that can be addressed by tacking on a secondary niche dimension (a.k.a. “niching down”).
Let’s start Niche Month off with one of the worst niche frustrations.
My Niche Doesn’t Make Enough Money
Some niches are just broke. Some are exploitative. Some (like small businesses) are simply full of people who don’t have a ton of money to pay out.
You might love your niche, but be honest with yourself…is staying on your current path jeopardizing your financial future?
If it is, it might be time to add on another niche dimension. In this case, slapping on a twist of tech, or moving up to larger businesses in the same space might be the difference you need to make more without completely reinventing yourself.
