I’m gonna be honest. I uh…I haven’t taken a real trip since I started freelancing full time 5 years ago.
For most people that might not be a big deal, but one of the main reasons I dove into this life was so that I’d be location independent and would have the freedom to travel wherever, and whenever I want.
Well, I just booked a trip to Japan.
I’ve been a couple times before so not much of the process was new, but what really surprised me was the lack of stress. I used to get very worried about the schedule, being prepared to fly out, and what I’d face when I got back.
This time? I’m barely even anxious. Booking this trip as a freelancer feels completely different than it did when I was employed.
There’s nobody breathing down my neck.
I don’t have to rush to get a ton of work done and prep to avoid fires while I’m gone..
If I want to work while I’m there, I can. If not, I won’t.
This is a huge deal and since it’s Reflection and Assessment month, I’m going to be documenting it in my Self-Assessment. If you haven’t taken time recently to be real honest about your feelings about your life as a freelancer and how things are working out, put some time on the calendar to update your own.
