I got an email today from one of the skill set specific platforms I follow. It was all about this new niche where freelancers were pulling in minimum $250K a year and some were living in the 7-figure range.
I was skeptical at first, but when they said it was in a high-demand, low supply niche, I believed them. Why?
Because short supply can really boost how much you get paid. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true.
Crowded niches where your work is a “dime a dozen” are going to be an uphill battle.
My Niche is Too Crowded
That’s why I’m always encouraging people to head to niches that aren’t obvious.
If your niche is overpopulated, you might not want to ditch it, and you might not need to!
Try a spin like B2B, that will keep you in the same space, but will give you a focus that sets you apart. (Side note, if you want a refresher on B2B, I just updated this post.)
I’m always trying to push people into B2B, and it’s not just because I love my niche. This world is undeserved in almost all industries to the point it’s a strong option to consider in almost any vertical. Having employment experience helps, but a lot of times, just taking the time to learn a space from a B2B perspective will make a big difference.
