I like to keep marketing as simple as possible and the same goes for job poaching.
The main goal is to just get your name in front of somebody while they’re trying to solve labor problems…that’s it. You’re not re-writing your resume or trying to prove you fit the job description. You’re just saying hi and encouraging them to take the next step.
I’ve been doing some job poaching off a couple of LinkedIn alerts myself today. Here’s the text I used.
Hi XXX,
I’m an industry-native writer (B2B healthcare tech) who’s worked with companies ranging from Microsoft Health and Dell to hospital SaaS, and mHealth. Would it be ok if I sent you some samples in my portfolio to consider for XXX? Have a great day!
You see that? Less than 50 words.
I just saw an ad from an agency, grabbed my LinkedIn agency introduction template and filled in some names. It took me less than 10 minutes to find and contact 6 people at the organization who had the titles I normally work with.
You can do the same thing via email or Twitter and you can even overtly mention the ad (I might have if LinkedIn’s contact note wasn’t so limited.) Test it out a few different ways to see how poaching can work in your marketing arsenal.
