One of the big perks of freelancing is getting to work the way we want. That’s great for us, but for clients who have their own processes and experiences with freelancers, it can be a little confusing.
That confusion can cause some serious project disasters. (I seriously think I might’ve just fumbled a $4K project behind this.)
That’s why you should never underestimate the power of managing expectations around your processes.
Fixing Process Confusion
A while back I started documenting my processes for all my services. It was partially an exercise in testing out outsourcing, but there was an added bonus — now, when I kicked off a project, I have a really clear, process for setting post-onboarding expectations.
This week, test it out for your most common service. You can play with relaying it verbally, via email, or even in visual format on your website.
Regardless of how you do it, there isn’t a client out there who won’t appreciate having a little better understanding of how you work.
