If you follow me on Twitter, you probably know that my latest goal is getting my average income up to $20K a month.

To help me get there, I’ve signed on with a business coach and mastermind group (I try to do one a year), but one tool’s been the most instrumental in getting there…sales tracking,
Get to Know Sales Tracking Tools
So full disclosure…I track my sales, but I just use an old-fashioned spreadsheet.
I track how much work I book every month by client and keep a total at the bottom. Yes it’s simple, but having it live in its own world has changed how I look at my freelance business.
I like to view my sales and marketing as completely separate from my production work. So when I sit down on a Monday morning, all I’m focused on is trying to get that number closer to my goal.
It’s basic, but it works for me.
CRM tools like Insightly (and to a lesser extent, Dubsado) have sales management functions that integrate a lot more cleanly with your billing and taxes than a spreadsheet. If you're looking for something more sales focused, check out an option like Pipedrive. But regardless of how you do it, start paying a little more serious attention to tracking your monthly sales.
You get what you measure and you’ll be surprised at how motivating it can be.
