You know my thoughts on business writing — even if you’re not a writer, you need to find some way to get your words and thoughts out there.
That’s because your writing is working for you 24-7 — it’s out there in the digital streets, creating awareness, selling, and yep…building trust.
Your published work is a preview of your personality, your thought process, and your perspective on their problems. If it’s not there? They’re left guessing and filling in the blanks. (And you do NOT want that happening.)
So does that mean you should dive straight into building up your blog?
Well, blogs are great, but in most cases, no. Not when your ultimate goal is to try to convince someone to spend money with you.
Building Trust Through Publishing
My perspective? There are 2 places you have to have on you list when building trust through publishing…LinkedIn, and trade mags.
LinkedIn is where people go to do business, period. Yes, you can find work elsewhere, but there’s no major social platform site where the conversation is going to be as focused as it is there.
Even better though, is trade mags. (You know my opinion on those.) Trade mags have already done the heavy work of establishing trust in your industry, so just one published article can take your reputation from gamble-freelancer to a potential trustworthy partner.
Don’t know what to write about? That’s where I started too. All it took to get started though was a few months of reading content in my niche and I started developing my own opinions and content ideas.
So if you’re feeling stuck in the trust-building game? Read. That’s where it all starts.
