In any other situation, your trust levels are starting from scratch. When you’ve got something in common though? It’s like instant credit.
Building Trust Through Your Background
When you choose a niche that you have professional or educational background in, you’re walking in with a huge advantage as a freelancer. Most of the other options your clients are considering are going to be generalists. If you’re specialized? You
immediately blow past them.
That’s why I always recommend people start their freelance careers where they’ve already got a leg-up.
As much passion as you might have for a field, you’ll always have a longer road to walk in building trust if you don’t have some kind of background. When you’re working your field, people see you as a colleague, an expert, and maybe even an invaluable resource.
So if you’re working in a specialization where you’ve done work or have a degree or two, sell that on your website and in your marketing, and if you aren’t…well…it might be something to consider as you’re refining your niche.
