I’m half embarrassed to admit this, but I’m just now starting to feel confident in my content.
It’s taken over 5 years of experience and working with a coach. Why?
Because I didn’t feel like I had anything valuable to say. At least not weekly. For some people it’s easy to step out and just start talking, but I needed to feel like I had enough experience to say words that people thought were deeply useful.
That said, I had beneficial content before. It just wasn’t the center of marketing strategy and I wasn’t publishing non-stop. It answered basic questions about a few things and I used it when appropriate. I think that’s ok.
Too many people say to “just create content”, and while it is important to just get out there, going too hard too early can be discouraging.
So if you don’t feel like you have a good reason to create content every single week or even month, that’s ok. Do a few basics like answering questions, offering opinions, and curating news you think your potential clients might find interesting. See what resonates and combine that with what you’re learning about your field as you grow as a freelancer.
