So last week I mentioned that we’re switching up the themes for Academy members.
Over the last few months, I’ve taken a hard look at what freelancers need to move our businesses forward, and decided that we don’t just need special topics. We have to rethink ourselves.
That’s why, this month, we’re going to start rotating through “check-ups” under three different roles that you manage in your business.
- CEO
- Production
- Marketing & Sales
This means that every quarter, you will have completed a comprehensive review of your business — just by checking your email.
Of course, you’ll always have access to the private group of motivated freelancers to discuss anything and everything that comes up. (Which is also available via mobile, so download the MightyNetworks app and look for the BlackFreelance network.)
Ready to get started?
We’re kicking things off with Marketing and Sales!
This Month’s Question:
Are you booking enough work each month?
So this question really comes down to mindset.
When I first started, I thought $8K/month was amazing…but then I thought about my life and financial goals. Then I did some math.
I played with a rate calculator (this one right here), put in my “dream” numbers, and decided I needed to be booking $17K every month.
That number looked huge.
If you would’ve told baby freelance Megan that she needed to pull that off, she would have laughed in your face.
Today though, I not only know it’s possible, but I’m getting really close to doing it regularly. How?
It hasn’t been about hustling more or taking some expensive sales course. It’s all basically come down to 2 things.
Working my marketing habits consistently and focusing on high-paying work.
The habits part is discipline, but the rates? That’s mindset.
I had to let go of the the idea that I needed or owed anything to my low-tier clients. I had to start giving my high-paying clients, high-paying work, and reliable corners of my niche some TLC.
But the most important part was ditching the low-dollar people.
They’re the ones who had me thinking my work wasn’t as valuable as it needed to be to get to that $17K (without overworking myself.) They’re the ones who had to go to make room for better.
…so how much do you want to book each month? Who do you need to think about letting go of?
Megan
